In a remarkably short journey, the world-famous TranzAlpine train leaves Christchurch on the East Coast, crosses the fertile farmlands of the Canterbury Plains, winds it's way through the stunning Waimakariri Gorge, passes over massive viaducts, crosses New Zealand's greatest mountain range, the Southern Alps, and travels through lush beech forests and past serene lakes before arriving in Greymouth on the West Coast.

• A smaller coach provides transfers to Manapouri for travelers joining Doubtful Sound Wilderness Cruise. This is a short 30 minute journey through rolling countryside. Board a modern catamaran vessel for a 3 hour cruise exploring the waterways of this serene and isolated fiord. There is plenty of time available to explore points of interest and view the spectacular alpine scenery including waterfalls, rainforest and mountains all the way out to the Tasman Sea. The area is home to Bottlenose dolphins and fur seals and when in season, the rare Fiordland Crested penguin. On the return cruise, the vessels engines are turned off and passengers are treated to the sound of silence where guests experience floating in silence on the fiord, only the rush of waterfalls and birdsong breaks the silence.
